Description:
The french dance, called the Gavotte, takes its name from a folk dance of the Gavot people, who reside in the Pays de Gap region of Dauphiné in the southeast of France. The music is notated in 4/4 time and is usually of a moderate tempo.
The Gavotte is often paired with a preceding triple time Minuet, when it used for ballroom dancing. In the court of King Louis XIV, where Jean-Baptiste Lully was the leading court composer, the Gavotte was one of the many optional dances in the classical suite.
